The Future of Local: ELEMENTS OF COLOUR
At the 2023 Jeju International Architecture Forum, under the theme “The Future of Local: COLORING THE CITIES,” we examined how architects based in various cities around the world, including Olot in Spain, Mexico City in Mexico, Tokyo in Japan, and Jeju in Korea, are applying and interpreting the local colour (COLOUR OF CITIES) in their works.
This year, we aim to take a step further with the theme “ELEMENTS OF COLOUR,” focusing on how various elements related to the future of local interact with one another. We will discuss how various factors such as people, culture, economy, history, cities, landscape, geography, and climate shape and change the color of a region.
Since these elements influence the local color in different ways, we intend to gather architects from Jeju and various cities worldwide to explore the meaning of “ELEMENTS OF COLOUR” and seek future directions.
The insights and discussions gained through this forum will help find architectural approaches suited to the characteristics and needs of each city. Through the interaction of various elements, we can create a richer and more diverse local color, thus making the future of cities brighter and more creative.
